The Miami iteration of The Art of Hip Hop is currently closed. After operating in Wynwood from December 2023 through December 2025, the space is now being repurposed as artist studios, continuing the Museum of Graffiti’s mission to support working artists and creative production. While the physical doors in Miami are temporarily shut, The Art of Hip Hop was never meant to stay in one place — it was designed from the beginning as a traveling exhibition, constantly evolving and reappearing in new cultural moments. Here’s a little history for you: The Art of Hip Hop was a Traveling Concept from the Start.
The Art of Hip Hop is a traveling exhibition created by the Museum of Graffiti, focused on the visual language behind hip hop culture — graffiti, photography, album design, fashion, and graphic art. The project first debuted as a pop-up at SXSW in Austin in 2023, aligning with the global celebration of hip hop’s 50th anniversary. The SXSW activation introduced the concept as an immersive experience that highlighted the artists who shaped hip hop’s look, not just its sound.
From Texas to Seoul
Following its successful launch at SXSW, The Art of Hip Hop expanded internationally, opening in Seoul, South Korea. The Seoul pop-up reinforced the global impact of hip hop’s visual culture, demonstrating how graffiti, design, and street aesthetics resonate far beyond their American origins. This stop emphasized cultural exchange, connecting local creatives with the shared visual DNA of hip hop worldwide.
Miami: A Two-Year Home in Wynwood
In December 2023, The Art of Hip Hop arrived in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District, where it operated for two years. Located in one of the world’s most recognizable street art neighborhoods, the Miami pop-up became a hub for exhibitions, education, and community engagement. Visitors experienced photography, rare ephemera, graffiti, and design work that traced hip hop’s evolution through a visual lens.
Though the Miami location is now closed to the public, the space continues to serve the creative community as artist studios, reinforcing the Museum of Graffiti’s commitment to supporting artists beyond traditional exhibition formats.
Returning to Miami: Formula 1, May 2026
The Art of Hip Hop will return to Miami in May, popping up during Formula 1 Miami, one of the city’s most globally visible cultural events. This next activation reflects the exhibition’s original purpose — to appear where culture, energy, and global attention intersect — and introduces hip hop’s visual history to new audiences in unexpected environments.
Why the Traveling Format Matters
By remaining mobile, The Art of Hip Hop mirrors hip hop itself: adaptive, influential, and rooted in movement. From SXSW to Seoul to Miami — and soon to Formula 1 — the exhibition continues to honor the artists who built hip hop’s visual identity while creating space for new conversations, new audiences, and new creative possibilities.
